Kat's Story

We are now rallying the community to give Kat the fighting chance she deserves. NGU's philosophy being Never Give Up!

Kat Berecic is a courageous 36-year-old woman whose life was forever changed in 2022 with the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 Mucinous Adenocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that began in her appendix and has since spread to several organs.

This cancer is incredibly uncommon, affecting fewer than two people per million, and there are very limited treatment options available in Australia. Since her diagnosis, Kat has undergone multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy. Despite her resilience and determination, traditional treatments are no longer working. Sadly, Kat has now exhausted all available treatment options in Australia.

Her only remaining hope lies in a groundbreaking immunotherapy program in Germany, known for treating rare and late-stage cancers like hers. But the cost of this treatment, including travel and accommodation is out of Kat's reach. We have set a goal of $150,000 to urgently help Kat in her fundraising efforts.

Kat is more than her diagnosis. She is a beloved daughter, friend, and community member known for her humour, strength, and infectious warmth. Now, she needs our help to continue her fight.

While surgeons successfully removed the tumour, the prolonged pressure, oxygen deprivation, and complexity of her surgery resulted in a severe hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.
